Adam Wharton to Real Madrid increasingly likely as odds tumble
One UK bookmaker believes that Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton is increasingly likely to make the move to Real Madrid this summer.
The 22-year-old midfielder’s future at Selhurst Park has been heavily speculated upon this transfer window after another successful campaign.
Palace are reportedly set to demand a bumper price for their star man to deter suitors. However, this may not be enough to stop Real Madrid.
Their odds of completing a move this summer transfer window have recently plummeted to 7/1, making them the fourth-favourites.
Chelsea and Liverpool have also been heavily linked to the England international in recent weeks.
However, Jose Mourinho’s side could now win the race for his signature.
Crystal Palace face increasingly difficult task to keep hold of Adam Wharton
Wharton’s stock has risen dramatically since his move to Palace in 2024.
The midfielder has since become an England international and has won three major trophies at the Eagles, including an FA Cup.
As a result, interest in the 22-year-old will be of little surprise. However, it is becoming an increasingly difficult task for Palace to hold off these potential suitors.
Football Insider exclusively revealed that Palace believe that they can demand a similar fee to what Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United got for Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali this summer, with both stars going for at least £100m.
It remains to be seen if any club is willing to pay this, with Wharton emerging as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders.
Who else is in the race for Wharton’s signature?
As it stands, Chelsea are the favourites to sign Wharton from Palace this summer at 2/1 as Xabi Alonso looks to bring in his own players.
This is then followed by Liverpool at 7/2 as Andoni Iraola looks to upgrade his midfield options after the club’s poor 2025-26 season, which resulted in Arne Slot being removed from the dugout.
Atletico Madrid are considered outsiders for his signature at 12/1, while a stay at Crystal Palace ahead of the 2026-27 campaign is seen as the most likely outcome at 6/4.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen where Wharton will be playing his football next season, with multiple clubs clearly keen on adding the England international to their squad this summer.
