Daniel Farke slammed over ‘unnecessary’ Leeds statement: ‘There was no need for that’
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke did not need to publicly express his desire for backing in the transfer market.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, after Farke called for the Leeds board to match his ambition.
Farke said he is “not the right choice” to stay on as Leeds manager if the ownership’s plans do not match his own, with talks set to be held over summer recruitment and his future once the season ends.
The German spoke out after Leeds maintained their Premier League status in their first season back in the top flight.
Transfer activity is expected at Leeds this summer, whilst there is expected to be interest in multiple key players, whom Farke will be keen to keep hold of.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Farke will get backed by Leeds’ owners in the summer transfer window.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness is predicting Leeds to be in contention for a European spot next season.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t think there was actually any need for Farke to come out and have said that.
“I think that was a given anyway. He’s in a position of strength. I don’t think there’s any need to amplify it. He will get what he is asking for provided it all makes sense of course. Leeds are in a good position again to consolidate for next season.
“I don’t expect them to be in the relegation battle. I do expect them to be mid-table, pushing for potential European qualification. So all in all, Daniel Farke has done a great job. So let’s just watch them and let’s just see the backing he gets.
“But, as I say, It was a bit unnecessary for him to have called for that and made the statements he’s made because he’ll get that backing anyway.”
Leeds could take advantage of Harvey Elliott situation
Whilst striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored 14 Premier League goals this season, Leeds are keen to add more firepower and attacking threat to their ranks.
Harvey Elliott is expected to be available this summer after the 23-year-old’s disastrous loan spell at Aston Villa from Liverpool, where he only started one league match.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Elliott has emerged as a target for Leeds, and they could reignite the midfielder’s career.
Liverpool would allow Elliott to leave at the right price, whilst Leeds could face competition for his signature from fellow Premier League clubs.
