It seems that Tottenham may be in a race against time if they want to ensure that they sign Atalanta midfielder Bryan Cristante in the summer transfer window.
Sky Sports has reported that Arsenal and Chelsea are in the hunt to sign Cristante, 23, and the Italy international’s agent was in London two weeks ago to discuss a potential Premier League move for his client.
This comes after Telegraph claimed that Mauricio Pochettino was eyeing up Cristante as a potential replacement for Mousa Dembele, who may be sold in the coming months as he will enter the final year of his contract in North London.
After the update on Cristante by Sky Sports, it now seems pretty clear that Daniel Levy must sanction an instant swoop for the Atalanta midfield dynamo, otherwise if Spurs are to continue their habit of waiting until late in the transfer window to spend money, they could miss out on the player to one of their biggest rivals.
Cristante has been in stunning form at Atalanta in Serie A this season.
He has made 44 appearances in all competitions and scored 12 goals, as well as supplying four assists.
The 23-year-old former Benfica ace put Everton to the sword in the Europa League earlier this term, scoring three goals against them over two group stage fixtures.
It is understood that Cristante is also fluent in English and holds dual-Canadian nationality.
Getting him in the summer will be a very clever piece of business by Spurs, but Levy just needs to loosen the transfer shackles to get his man.
