Tottenham are in the hunt to sign Atalanta’s midfield goal machine Bryan Cristante, according to a report.
The Telegraph claims that Cristante, 23, is on Spurs’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window as Mauricio Pochettino sets his sights on signing a new central midfielder regardless of Mousa Dembele’s contractual situation in North London.
Cristante has been in scintillating form for Atalanta this season, scoring 11 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions this season.
The two-times Italy international obliterated Everton in the Europa League group stages before Christmas, scoring in each of the two meetings with the Premier League club, including a brace in a 5-1 win at Goodison Park.
The former Benfica midfielder has continued his stunning form in front of goal in Serie A, adding Napoli, Juventus and AC Milan to his list of victims.
Football Insider verdict
Cristante has been in lethal form in front of goal this season but Tottenham do not really need that kind of midfielder in their team. Dembele’s situation is not cleared up quite yet and there can be improvements made on the likes of Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama. In that case, Pochettino needs to be looking out for a bit of a midfield powerhouse, someone who is full of energy and will not stop chasing the ball throughout the 90 minutes. Cristante would be a good back-up option if Dele Alli got injured so it probably would not be worth spending a lot of money on him.
