Danny Mills has insisted Tottenham already have the “perfect” replacement for exit-bound Toby Alderweireld in defensive rising star Davinson Sanchez.
Alderweireld’s future is shrouded in major doubt this summer due to a £26million release clause in his contract, which is about to enter its final year.
Talks over a long-term extension collapsed last year and multiple elite clubs have been linked with a summer swoop for the Belgium international.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Mills explained why Tottenham do not need to fret about securing a big-money replacement for the 30-year-old.
“Davinson Sanchez is starting to come into it and could be a really good player,” he said. “He has two seasons of Premier League experience under his belt and is a quality centre-back who is young and will get better. He’s a little rash and makes errors, but those will be ironed out as he gets more experience.
“The possibility of key players going – Alderweireld and Eriksen particularly – may be a big problem for Tottenham this summer. But I think replacing Alderweireld is less of an issue, a perfect replacement is there. Eriksen is almost irreplaceable.”
Alderweireld has made 48 starts among 49 Spurs appearances this season, more than any other player at the club.
Sanchez, 22, signed from Ajax for a club-record £42million in 2017, has made 35 starts among the 37 matches he has played in all competitions.
In other Spurs news, it can be REVEALED that the club have secured a jawdropping £230million windfall.
