Danny Mills has been left stunned by Tottenham’s “incredible” swoop for Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.
Spurs are on the verge of making the 23-year-old their club-record signing in a deal worth up to £65million that completely obliterates their previous highest player spend.
Ndombele has headed to London to finalise the transfer and undergo a medical, as Football Insider revealed last weekend, before putting pen to paper on a lucrative five-year contract that will make him one of the club’s top earners.
The total cost of the deal, including fee and wages, could total at least 107million for the France international, in what is a real statement of intent from the Champions League finalists.
“It’s big money for Tottenham. it’s incredible, very unlike them,” Mills told Football Insider. “I’m stunned, really, as you don’t often see that.
“Ndombele will be a very good player for Tottenham. A superstar? To be a superstar in the Premier League, you have to be very special, like Patrick Vieira.
“There have been some exceptional players that have come to the Premier League from France, many of them to Arsenal, and it will be interesting to see if Ndombele can be one of those.
“Tottenham certainly need a new midfielder, and they have really pushed the boat out with this one.
Ndombele is a six-times France international who is joining Tottenham two years after joining Lyon, initially on loan, from fellow French club Amiens.
He has also acquired Champions League experience and will be expected to slot straight into their midfield next season.
In other Spurs news, it can be REVEALED that the club have pulled out of the race to sign a top-notch international midfielder.
