Danny Mills swipes at Jack Grealish after 'big' Man City flashpoint

Jack Grealish should have scored at least once as Man City crashed out of the Champions League with a 6-5 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid last night (4 May).

That is the view of ex-City and England defender Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Grealish’s performance and lack of character at the Bernabeu.

The 26-year-old was substituted on after 78 minutes, just after Riyad Mahrez had put Pep Guardiola’s side 1-0 up on the night.

Rodrygo then scored a quick-fire brace right at the death before Karim Benzema sealed a stunning comeback in added time with a penalty.

“You do want more from Grealish,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“If he scores those goals it’s a totally different story. You’ve got to put one of those away at that level.

“When we look back at the likes of John Terry and Ramires in that Chelsea side that got to the final after turning it around against Barcelona, maybe that’s what City are lacking at times.

“Fernandinho is probably too old to play that role now.

“When you look at what Real Madrid do and what Chelsea have done in the past, they fight and scrap. Is that the only thing that is lacking from Man City?

“They were two goals up with two minutes to go and you concede one in injury time then you should smash the ball up the other end and press them in. Then it takes them another 30 seconds, 40 seconds or a minute to get the ball up the other end.

“They don’t, they continue to play and lose the ball. As nice as that is but football is about winning.

“Those big moments in the Champions League you can’t capitulate like that.”

In other news, Man City have been tipped to sign the new Sergio Aguero and sell a senior star after an update.
