Man City tipped to sign new Sergio Aguero and sell senior star after transfer update - pundit
Noel Whelan has suggested Man City could finally the void left by Sergio Aguero by signing Erling Haaland this summer.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Borussia Dortmund hitman’s prospective arrival could push Gabriel Jesus out the exit door.
As reported by the Mirror (30 April), City have told Pep Guardiola they will sign the top-class centre-forward he wants this summer and, as revealed by Football Insider (12 February), are in pole position to land Haaland.
They are reportedly willing to offer the 21-year-old £400,000-a-week and a big-money signing-on fee.
The report also claims City will allow Jesus, 25, to leave for £40million.
Whelan suggested Haaland could force the Brazilian out of the Etihad Stadium after he failed to step up following Aguero’s departure.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Aguero is the thing they’ve never replaced. It’s very difficult to find those natural goalscorers who get you 30-a-season continuously.
“Aguero was one of the best goal scorers in the world. It’s probably a little bit harsh on Jesus but when you follow in the footsteps of someone who’s been so prolific. It’s a tough job to come in and shadow.
“You’re looking for a more prolific goalscorer, an out-and-out goalscorer.
“If they’re getting Haaland in during the summer, that kind of leaves Jesus sitting on the bench. Does he want to sit on the bench? That’s the problem as well.
“Does he fit into the style, if Haaland comes in, that Pep wants? You can have a big squad but sometimes it can be too big with an extra player that might not be needed at times.
“They can afford to let him go, there’s no doubt about it.”
