Danny Rohl faces Rangers behind-the-scenes mutiny as fresh allegation emerges

Rangers players are now beginning to have doubts about the position of Danny Rohl after his public bust-up with James Tavernier last week.

The 34-year-old alleged that the manager broke promises about his playing time in his final outing at Ibrox in a message posted to his social media accounts.

Rohl has since claimed that no promises were made and he had to do what was best for the team, but it has done little to stem the frustrations directed at him.

Former Man United assistant manager warned Football Insider that Rohl could start losing the trust of his star players as a result of the falling-out with Tavernier.

Concerns that the manager will not keep promises he has made to players has led to new concerns, with star names set to raise questions over the Rangers manager’s future.

Why did Danny Rohl and James Taverier fall out?

Brown told Football Insider on 18 May that Rohl is coming under fire at Rangers as a result of the issue with Tavernier, leading to growing calls for his head.

The captain will depart upon the expiry of his contract next month, but had hoped to lead the team out one last time at Ibrox with his children as the mascots.

However, he started the game on the bench and did not feature against Falkirk, bowing out at Rangers from the sidelines and amid a bust-up with the manager.

“As a manager, why would you make a promise that you can’t keep?” Brown asked Football Insider.

“You’re making a rod for your own back, it’s difficult enough to manage high-profile players, let alone when you’re telling them one thing and doing another.

“Making promises to a player like Tavernier, telling him his kids could be involved, and then to retract all of that, allegedly, is not a good look at all for Rohl.

“What happens now is the other players at Rangers are having doubts, they’re looking at him and saying if he couldn’t keep that promise, how’s he going to keep others?

“Why should they now believe a word he says to them, when he’s supposedly treated the captain that way?

“So the trust in the manager fades away, they start questioning him and if he means what he’s saying, that’s a very dangerous position for the manager to be in.

“He’s caused this issue for himself, and now there’s going to be doubts in the players’ minds.”

How do Rangers feel about sacking Rohl?

Tavernier is not the only one to have voiced his frustrations towards Rohl’s management, as Rangers fans have begun to call for his dismissal after the season ended.

Despite a 5-2 victory against Falkirk on the final day of the season, Rangers had lost four consecutive games prior and dropped completely out of the title race.

Rangers were just one point behind Hearts when the league split, but a run of miserable form meant they finished the season ten points eventual league-winners Celtic.

However, Football Insider revealed on 15 May that Rangers have given Rohl assurances over his future at Ibrox and are not planning to pull the trigger.

Instead, they are putting plans in place to continue working towards a long-term project with him at the helm, and hope to back him in the summer transfer window.
