Danny Rohl takes on entire Rangers dressing room and lays down gauntlet that ‘gives him all the power’

Danny Rohl has proven he has the leadership skills to begin rebuilding Rangers this summer, according to Keith Wyness.

The former Aberdeen chief executive, speaking to Football Insider, believes the Rangers fanbase should be “happy” to have Rohl as their manager.

The 37-year-old came under increasing pressure from the fans in the final weeks of the Scottish Premiership season after Rangers lost four of their last five matches.

Captain James Tavernier’s omission from the starting line-up for his final home match at the club, and the subsequent fallout, has also heaped scrutiny on Rohl.

Rohl is expected to remain in charge of Rangers next season, though the German may need to get off to a positive start to keep the fanbase on side.

Danny Rohl ‘has taken on the Rangers dressing room’ after James Tavernier bust-up

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Rohl handled the Tavernier situation well.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Rohl’s position in the dressing room will be strengthened after a summer of transfer activity.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Rangers have got some challenges for next season, and Rohl is showing strong leadership.

“Rohl has taken on all the dressing room to a degree and said, ‘right, you follow me, or you don’t’. He’s got the power to be able to do that now and move forward. With some new players coming in, that will help him with that as well.

“There was obviously going to be tension with Tavernier having being there so long. He will obviously command a certain respect and influence in the dressing room. Rohl had to tackle that full on, and he’s obviously done it.

“Rangers fans should be happy that they’ve got somebody who’s a leader and is prepared to show leadership and handle things like that. So, I have no problem with what he did.”

How Rangers can close the financial gulf between them and Celtic

Rangers face an important summer after the club missed out on a place in the Champions League qualifying rounds next season.

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Rangers’ player trading model needs to improve after they missed out on potential Champions League revenue.

The Gers made a £600,000 loss on player sales last summer, whilst in comparison to Glasgow rivals Celtic, they made a profit of £31.5million.

Defender Emmanuel Fernandez and midfielder Nico Raskin are two players who Rangers could sell this summer for a profit amid interest from Premier League teams.
