Darren Bent claimed that Tottenham defender Danny Rose was starting to be affected by his uncertain future after the 1-1 draw with Watford.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs forward shared that he found Rose’s poor performance against Watford strange as he is usually one of the club’s most consistent players.
Spurs fell 1-0 behind to bottom-of-the-league Watford on Saturday but ended up earning a point as Dele Alli scored a last-gasp equaliser.
Bent suggested that behind-the-scene issues regarding Rose’s contract were the reason for his disappointing display against the Hornets as he admitted it wasn’t one of the left-back’s finest games.
When asked about Rose not looking at his best against Watford, Bent told Football Insider: “Yeah, it was a strange one.
“He’s usually one of their more consistent players, but the Danny Rose situation, the contract situation, I think it’s starting to affect him and the squad on the pitch as at the minute, there are a few uncertainties as Danny Rose doesn’t know where’ll he be next season.
“So for me, it wasn’t one of his best games but I just think Spurs are in an awkward and difficult situation as some of the players don’t know if they’re coming or going.”
Rose has featured in all-but-one of Spurs’ Premier League games this season and has helped his side register one clean sheet in the process.
The 29-year-old has been at Spurs since 2007 after joining from Leeds United but did spend the first few years of his Tottenham career being loaned out to the likes of Watford and Sunderland.
