A reliable source of Rangers news has played down fears that David Bates is set to reject a contract extension at the club.
The Four Lads Had a Dream Twitter account posted the update on Tuesday evening in response to queries from Rangers fans who had heard that he had turned an initial offer down.
They said that the 21-year-old centre-back is still in talks with the club and that “very few” players sign the first offer that is given to them.
They said it is completely normal for a player to negotiate over a deal and that he is a Rangers fan and that supporters should get behind him.
This comes after some sustained criticism from fans following the report that he had turned down the Rangers offer.
Bates is out of contract in the summer and has recently made an impact on the first team, starting the last six games in the Premiership.
