David James names Tottenham ace as player of the year (not Kane or Alli)

BT Sport pundit and former Premier League goalkeeper David James has made a surprise player of the year selection with Tottenham’s Eric Dier.
Now, the six-man shortlist for the PFA player of the year award has been made and it doesn’t include Spurs ace Dier, who has filled in at midfield and defence for Mauricio Pochettino’s team this season.
But, James made his selection befor the nominees were revealed and he did go for a three-man Tottenham list with Dele Alli and Harry Kane his number two and three picks.
However, surprisingly he selected Dier as his first choice and described the England international as the “cement” between Spurs’ impressive displays.
“I’ve been so impressed with him (Dier) this season,” told James to BT Sport Score when justifying his decision to pick Dier as his player of the season.

“When people talk about Kante…… Kante is this breaker upper of games. Dier is the cement between the bricks of Tottenham’s performances.”
Dier has played in 30 matches for Tottenham in the league this season, but so often the praise goes to fellow Spurs stars Kane and Alli with Hugo Lloris, Mousa Dembele, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker who are all ranked with the best in the Premier League.
However, both club and country managers Pochettino and Gareth Southgate see what Dier brings to a team as they so often include him as one of the first names in their starting eleven.
The talented 23-year-old still has time to learn and grow before he can become a regular name among the nominees for the player of the year award and with four years left on his contract Tottenham fans will be hoping he can fulfil his potential in north London.
