Derby County have finalised the signing of Manchester United youngster Teden Mengi on loan and an announcement is imminent, Football Insider understands.
Rams boss Wayne Rooney has been given the green light by his former club United to take the highly-rated 18-year-old defender for the rest of the season.
A Derby source has told Football Insider that Mengi has completed a medical and put the finishing touches to the temporary transfer.
The deal is expected to go through before Monday’s 11pm deadline.
Mengi is set to become Derby’s second deadline-day signing as they also complete the capture of Lee Gregory from Stoke City.
Like Mengi, Gregory will also join on loan for the rest of the campaign.
A third Derby recruit before the window shuts could be Rangers defender George Edmundson.
He arrived at the club for a medical on Monday morning and negotiations with the Scottish Premiership leaders are all but done.
Mengi lacks the experience of Edmundson and Gregory but has learned his trade at one of the world’s biggest clubs and Rooney is well aware of his potential.
The teenage centre-back made his senior debut as a substitute in United’s Europa League last-16 tie with Austrian club LASK in August.
This season he has played in three EFL Trophy games but has not made a senior appearance.
Rooney has been unable to make permanent new signings because of the protracted nature of an impending takeover of the Championship club.
