Dermot Desmond has cost Celtic millions after Fares Ghedjemis transfer failure

Dermot Desmond remains a highly controversial figure at Celtic despite their recent Scottish Premiership title victory.

The lack of transfer activity in recent windows have drawn plenty of criticism after it caused a notable decline in the squad’s quality.

The winter window was seen at the time as a particular failure, with Celtic unable to secure multiple targets, including Fares Ghedjemis.

Now, this has come back to haunt the Old Firm side, with the 23-year-old seeing out an excellent 2025-26 campaign, where he helped Frosinone win promotion back to Serie A.

Ghedjemis’ price tag has now risen dramatically, which could cost Celtic millions if they choose to go back in for the winger.

Frosinone now demand £13m for Fares Ghedjemis sale

According to Tuttofrosinone on 18 May, Frosinone are now set to demand at least £13million to part with Ghedjemis this summer.

Such a sale could put the club in an excellent position to survive, as it would allow them to strengthen multiple areas in their squad ahead of their return to the Serie A.

This comes months after Celtic had an approach turned down for the winger in the winter window, with the player wanting to see out promotion with the club.

However, Desmond’s lack of adaptability has now cost Celtic millions.

Frosinone’s promotion has no doubt heavily risen Ghedjemis’ price tag, and it now seems a big ask for the Hoops to complete a deal.

Desmond should have looked to reach an agreement to sign the winger ahead of the summer, or even brought him and loaned him back to the club until the end of the season.

Instead, Celtic have now either missed out on a highly valuable player or will have to pay even more to bring him to Parkhead ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Could Celtic make a summer move for Ghedjemis?

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Ghedjemis was still on Celtic’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old’s agent, Fabrizio Ferrari, did not rule out a summer departure in March, which could open the door for the Hoops to make a move.

However, a deal could be difficult to do due to the price tag Frosinone has set on the winger.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Celtic’s recent qualification for the Champions League will help boost their transfer budget and, in turn, result in a deal for Ghedjemis.
