'Go out swinging' - Leeds fans urge Monk to bring 25-year-old out from the cold v Wigan

By Will Butcher

Leeds fans have urged Garry Monk on Twitter to start forgotten striker Marcus Antonsson against Wigan at the DW Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The 25-year-old has featured just three times since the turn of the year and only once in England’s second flight, coming on as a substitute against Rotherham in January.

The Championship’s top scorer Chris Wood has kept Swedish striker Antonsson on the sidelined this season, after Wood struck his 29th goal of the season against Norwich.

With the clash against already relegated Wigan a dead rubber, former Swansea boss Monk could field a side that includes a number of reserves and that could include Antonsson.

Leeds fans have attempted to persuade Monk on Twitter to start Antonsson, despite the former Kalmar FF forward only finding the back of the net three times in Leeds colours.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Antonsson was brought to Elland Road back in the summer for a huge £2million, but has failed to prove he is worth the hefty transfer fee by making only 10 starts in all competitions.

Leeds could still make the play-offs in mathematical terms, but would need a huge 14-goal swing in goal difference as well as winning against Wigan and Fulham losing to Sheffield Wednesday.

In other Leeds news, Noel Whelan has made a huge claim about Monk’s future at Leeds.
