Jamie Redknapp has warned Liverpool that they will have to keep a very close eye on Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen when the two sides meet at Wembley on Sunday.
Eriksen, 25, has been in top form for Spurs this season, and Redknapp has pinpointed the Dane as being just as dangerous in the box as Harry Kane and Dele Alli have been in recent years.
The ex-Ajax wizard has made 10 appearances for Spurs across all competitions this term, scoring three goals and supplying four assists in the process.
Although Eriksen is better known for his ability at set-pieces and his ability to create openings for his team-mates, ex-Spurs and Liverpool player Redknapp believes that he has now shown that he can be a lethal threat inside the box and could prove to be a handful to Jurgen Klopp’s defence this weekend.
“We all know about his ability to score 25-yarders and free-kicks. Now, Eriksen is getting into the box an awful lot more and Liverpool’s centre backs — Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip — must be alert to this threat,” said Redknapp on the Daily Mail website.
“All three of Eriken’s goals this season have come from inside the box, including his winner against Bournemouth that secured Spurs their vital first victory in the league at Wembley.
“Eriksen has gone from Tottenham’s creator to their destroyer.”
Tottenham will go into Sunday’s clash knowing that history will not be on their side having failed to have beat Liverpool in their last 10 meetings.
The Reds have won seven of them encounters but if Mauricio Pochettino’s side break that winless streak this weekend they can potentially move level on points with second-placed Manchester United and no doubt keep alive their hopes of a maiden Premier League title.
In other Tottenham news, Klopp has hailed this Spurs player as “one of the best” ahead of this weekend’s game.
