Danny Mills has been left drooling over the abilities of Arsenal star Mesut Ozil after seeing him return to the side against Liverpool and Wolves this week.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant Russell Edge, the former Manchester City and England full-back says that the German is the sort of player who will divide opinion among fans but that he is a world-class talent on his day.
The 31-year-old returned to the starting XI for the first time since September in the League Cup clash with Liverpool, remaining in the side for Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Wolves.
Mills says that he is a huge admirer of Ozil’s talents on the ball and insists that it is up to Unai Emery to play in a way which gets the very best out of his mercurial midfielder.
Mills told Football Insider: “Ozil will always split opinion, he is a magnificent player. So much ability but his languid style doesn’t always look like he’s putting a shift in. His ability on the ball is amazing, it’s fabulous.
“You have to play him in the right role, you have to play him in the number 10 role or give him license to let him do what he wants to do.
“If you can get that player fit and playing well, you’ve got a world cup winner who’s got devastating ability at times, but you’ve got to set the team up to get the best out of him.”
Ozil has now played just four games across all competitions for the Gunners this season, with just two unused substitute appearances to add to his record.
He has a total of 234 games under his belt during his time in north London, 167 of which have come in the Premier League.
