Dimitar Berbatov has stated that Tottenham ace Mousa Dembele has “all the qualities” to become a world class player.
The former Spurs striker made the comments on Sky Sports’ Goals On Sunday show where he was praising the powerful midfielder.
Berbatov played with Dembele during their time at Fulham and would know first hand what the 29-year-old is like on the training field.
Dembele was on target for his side during their 4-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, his first goal since 2015.
Despite a few years since his last goal, former Manchester United man Berbatov had this to say about Dembele.
“He is the type of player to have all the qualities to be a world class player,” Berbatov told Sky Sports. “I watched him when I was teammates with him at Fulham and [I saw] the potential he had.
“He is now starting to develop and is becoming even better. He is a better player now. It is probably because he is playing in a bigger team, the coach is right, the teammates around him are also making him better. I think if he can stay away from injuries, he can grow.”
Over the course of the season, Dembele has played 32 games in all competitions, scoring one goal and supplying two assists.
He has been playing in front of the defence for the majority of the campaign, playing alongside the likes of Victor Wanyama, Eric Dier and Harry Winks during the season.
In the league, he has played 24 matches, starting the last 13 games for his side as they are pushing for the Premier League title.
At this moment in time, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are four points behind current league leaders Chelsea, who take on Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
The duo will then meet in the FA Cup semi-final on April 22 at Wembley, with the winner set to play either Arsenal or Manchester City.
In other Tottenham news, Paul Merson believes the club won’t win the Premier League title with this player.
