Djed Spence tipped to quit Tottenham in January after 'red flags' I've heard - expert

Djed Spence could push to leave Tottenham on loan in January after a lack of game time this season, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he “really feels for” the 22-year-old and admitted he needs to be playing more than he has been.

As reported by journalist Alastair Gold last week (18 November), Antonio Conte will run the rule over the right-back during the World Cup break as he considers where his short-term future lies.

The report claims the summer signing may be given the green light to head out on loan if he does not feature in the Italian’s plans for the second half of the campaign.

Speaking back in January, Conte said Spence was a signing the “club wanted”, rather than a target of his own.

Hutton insisted that was the first “red flag” for the wing-back.

Asked by Football Insider if he thought Spence could push for a January move, Hutton said: “Possibly. I really feel for him.

“I watched him quite a bit last season and I’ve really liked what I’ve seen. He fits into that Antonio Conte way of playing.

“Obviously, he sees him day in, day out. Is there something he’s not happy with?

“He came on in the Forest game and he looked lively. He was running forward and trying to make things happen.

“If you’re not getting game time at that age, you have to go out and look to play football. The biggest thing about the whole situation is when he did first come into the club, Antonio Conte said something like he wasn’t his signing. He was a club signing.

“That, right there for me, is a red flag instantly. I do feel for him, I think he’s got a lot of ability. I believe he could push for that position there.
