Don Hutchison believes Newcastle only need to win one of their remaining four games to seal promotion back to the Premier League.
The Magpies travel to Ipswich on Monday afternoon but will not be able to mathematically secure their top-flight return, even if third-place Huddersfield lose.
David Wagner’s side still have a game in hand on Newcastle but a defeat against Derby today means they will have to win all their remaining games to knock the Tynesiders out of the top two.
Gateshead-born Hutchison makes no secret that he is part of the Toon Army, despite a year-long spell at Sunderland in his playing career.
“Come on Newcastle. One more win should just about do it,” said the 45-year-old on his personal Twitter account.

Newcastle know that whatever happens today they will not be able to topple Brighton from the Championship’s No 1 spot.
The Gulls moved four points clear of Rafa Benitez’s side when they beat Wolves 2-0 on Good Friday before the Magpies were held to a draw by play-off hopefuls Leeds.
Brighton have a home fixture against relegation-threatened Wigan on Monday and they can seal their first ever promotion to the Premier League if they can better the result of Huddersfield.
Benitez is set to be without Dwight Gayle again after suffering a recurrence of his hamstring injury meaning Aleksandar Mitrovic is likely to lead the line against the Tractor Boys.
In other Newcastle news, the club are reportedly in a three-way battle to sign this in-demand attacker.
