Dundee United have confirmed the signing of attacker Mati Zata after he exited Rangers in January. The Tangerines announced on their

and

on Monday that Zata, 17, has agreed terms for a one-and-a-half year deal at Tannadice, a month after he left Ibrox.

Zata had been on the look-out for a new club after he announced on his

that he had left Ibrox on transfer deadline day in January. The 17-year-old admitted that it was a "very sad day" for him to leave his boyhood club, but now it seems as though he has a great chance to continue his development with Dundee United, who currently sit fourth in the Scottish Championship standings.

The Zimbabwean attacking midfielder holds dual nationality as he was born in Alloa and has represented Scotland at Under-16 level.

Football Insider verdict

Zata failed to make a single senior appearance for Rangers but judging by the fan reaction to his exit, he was held in very high regard and has a lot of potential to be reached. Dundee United have a decent history of developing young players so Zata has made a great choice in moving to Tannadice. The Tangerines should be back in the Scottish Premiership before too long so the 17-year-old will no doubt be hoping that he is able to show Rangers why they were wrong to let him go in January.
