Donyell Malen: Roma eye ‘quick profit’ on star as Newcastle plot deal
Donyell Malen could yet be sold by Roma this summer as Newcastle United eye up a deal for the Aston Villa loanee, sources have told Football Insider.
The Dutch forward is set to join the Italian giants permanently after a productive loan spell, and it is understood that they are weighing up the possibility of selling him for a “quick profit” this summer.
Sources say that the capital club will want to keep Malen if they qualify for the Champions League, while the player himself is happy with the role that he has taken up in Serie A.
However, the Magpies may still have hope of landing the 27-year-old if Roma finish outside the top four, as the chance to cash in could potentially appeal.
Newcastle want to add a new striker to their group this summer, and the Villa loanee has emerged as a surprise candidate for them of late.

Malen was shipped out by Aston Villa back in January, but he has hit the ground running since moving to Italy.
The former Borussia Dortmund star has struck 11 goals from his opening 15 games in Serie A, while also providing two assists.

That form has seen Newcastle take an interest in him ahead of the upcoming window, as they look to prise him away from Roma within months of his arrival.
However, it has already become clear that it will not be cheap for the Tynesiders if they want to make a deal happen this summer.
Malen’s permanent switch is set to go through for £25million, and Roma are only interested in a deal that would see them make a substantial amount of money.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are also outside the Champions League places by just one point with three games to go, meaning it is still possible that any desire they have for a sale could soon evaporate.
Anthony Gordon to force cut-price exit from St James’ Park
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on Thursday that Newcastle could sell Anthony Gordon on the cheap this summer, with player power expected to come into play.
The Magpies are currently believed to be holding out for a fee of £75m amid strong interest from Bayern Munich, but the former recruitment boss believes that is more than the German giants are willing to spend.
Brown outlined that the North East outfit may yet be forced into lowering their asking price if Gordon insists on making the move happen, as a familiar situation could be set to play out.
Alexander Isak dug his heels in to force through a move to Liverpool last summer, and Newcastle have familiar concerns with several of their key players heading into this window.
Gordon could be one of them, if he decides he wants to move to the Allianz Arena, and that stance would then put Newcastle in a difficult spot.
