Eddie Howe has lost faith in Yoane Wissa’s ability to perform for Newcastle United and is ready to sell him this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The manager and his staff are said to have “no confidence” in the striker, and the club are ready to listen to any offers that come in for him during the upcoming transfer window.

Howe is currently viewing the 29-year-old as the fourth-choice striker at St James’ Park, with sources indicating that even William Osula has now climbed above him in the pecking order.

Nick Woltemade and Anthony Gordon are also seen as stronger options to lead the line centrally, with Wissa’s future in the North East under serious threat ahead of next season.

Newcastle’s transfer business from last summer left a lot to be desired, and plans are already in place for the Magpies to begin rectifying those issues this time around.

Eddie Howe urged to switch formation to accommodate Yoane Wissa

Wissa arrived on Tyneside with big expectations after his £55million move from Brentford last summer, but he simply hasn’t lived up to them so far.

He spent the first half of the season battling to reach full fitness, and has since managed just one goal from his 14 Premier League appearances, a far cry from his tally of 19 league strikes from last term.

The DR Congo international has played just 29 minutes of club football since the start of March, and hasn’t started a game for Newcastle in any competition since 7 February.

However, Howe has been urged to deviate from his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation in order to try and spark an upturn in form from the big-money frontman.

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider at the end of March that he feels Wissa would be a better fit as part of a strike partnership, but also acknowledged that he hasn’t shown much to convince the manager of his ability so far.

His move to the North East has completely failed to get off the ground so far, and Howe has now been able to convince the recruitment team that they should be looking for a way to offload him this summer.

Anthony Gordon to leave Newcastle facing striker rebuild

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown recently told Football Insider that he backs Liverpool to win the race for Anthony Gordon this summer, despite the likes of Bayern Munich also showing an interest.

A queue of elite clubs is forming to try and prise the forward away from St James’, with his future appearing increasingly uncertain as the campaign has worn on.

Gordon has been a key figure for Newcastle in recent years, and if he were to depart alongside Wissa, then the Magpies would be facing a major rebuild of their striker options.

They have had issues in front of goal throughout the campaign, and the position is already being viewed as a key area for them to adress before 2026-27 gets underway.
