Eddie Howe’s future at Newcastle ‘made clear’ by PIF after ‘unacceptable’ season
Eddie Howe will have been told by Newcastle United’s Saudi ownership that results and performances will need to improve next season.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, after it emerged that Howe would remain Newcastle manager.
It comes after Newcastle’s annual meeting where Howe met face-to-face with chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and other key figures.
Speculation over Howe’s future at St James’ Park had been building, with Newcastle having lost 16 Premier League games this season.
Howe though has been backed by the PIF, with the 48-year-old seen as the manager the club want at the helm to help them rebuild the squad during the summer transfer window.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – states that stability is key for Newcastle heading into next season.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness praised the club’s decision on Howe, but warned he will still be under scrutiny.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “In terms of Eddie Howe, he is going to stay, but believe me, they’ve made it fairly clear, and he knows himself, he doesn’t have to be told, that this season’s been unacceptable in terms of some of the results.
“So it’s not like we’re with Eddie regardless. I think we’re with Eddie right now, because he’s the best one to take us forward.
“I’ve preached many times on here that stability is key in the managerial situation and this makes sense, so this is a good decision for Eddie to stay there.”
Newcastle star expected to force summer departure
One area of the squad which Howe will have to resolve this summer is up-front, with both Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa struggling for form.
Sources have told Football Insider that Woltemade is expected to push to leave Newcastle this summer, with a return to Germany a possibility.
The Magpies may have to make a loss on Woltemade, with the 24-year-old having been purchased for a fee of up to £69million.
Some clubs could be priced out of a deal to sign Woltemade if Newcastle want their money back, but Howe will want the funds to sign a new striker.
