Ederson: ‘Verbal agreement’ reached for 55.2% Newcastle target as deal nears completion
Ederson looks to be set to sign for Manchester United from Atalanta in the coming days despite links to Newcastle United.
A deal for the Brazilian is reportedly advancing swiftly, with a verbal agreement reached on a deal worth around £43million.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season for Atalanta, and has attracted plenty of interest throughout Europe this summer.
The Magpies had hoped to take advantage of the fact that Ederson will have just one year remaining on his contract this summer, but they appear to have been beaten to the punch.
Newcastle transfer chiefs remain interested in strengthening their midfield, but they may have to look elsewhere.

Football Insider exclusively revealed in November that Newcastle are interested in Ederson, but a bid has not yet materialised.
The Magpies may well have needed to sell before buying this summer, with the financial situation at St James’ Park less than ideal.

Anthony Gordon is expected to join Bayern Munich in a big-money move in the coming months, and there could be an exit in midfield, too.
Joelinton has suffered an injury-hit season, while Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali have both been linked with moves away.
Ederson, who joined Atalanta in 2022 from Salernitana, may well have been the ideal choice for a potential replacement.
However, according to Matteo Moretto, Man United have reached a “verbal agreement” with the Italian side and an agreement on personal terms.
Talks will take place to close the deal in the coming days, with just the very last details needed to seal the transfer.
Eddie Howe outlines his ideal Newcastle transfer
Newcastle will have to work intelligently in the transfer market this summer, with financial restrictions making each and every signing incredibly important.
The Magpies wasted plenty of money last summer, signing Yoane Wissa and Anthony Elanga for north of £100m combined just to receive six goals across all competitions in return.
Of course, Howe may well see an improvement in several players next season, but he cannot rely on it.
The manager is already under huge pressure, and will be expected to recruit well in the market to ensure a strong start to the campaign.
“I think I could spend hours talking to you about the footballers aspect and what they need to do,” Howe said when asked about his ideal signing.
“I think the big thing for me is taking all that aside, because you haven’t got that time and we haven’t got that time right now, is they have to want to come and play for this great football club. That’s number one.
“And in my experience, if the player has any doubt and isn’t totally sure this is the right place for them, it doesn’t work.”
