Edouard tipped to stay at Celtic amid Romano reveal - pundit

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Odsonne Edouard may be forced to stay at Celtic and see out the rest of his contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward claimed Edouard may earn an even better move next summer as a free agent.

The striker currently has just 12 months left to run on his Parkhead contract so could leave for free next summer.

Football Insider broke the news last week (14 August) Ligue 1 side OGC Nice are lining up an official bid for the Frenchman.

Meanwhile, he has been linked to Premier League side Crystal Palace but Fabrizio Romano reported last night (21 August) that a bid has not been made.

Asked whether Edouard may have to stay at Parkhead this season, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think he might.

“He’s got a great chance of staying now with it being so close to the end of the window. Clubs may have already done all of their business and might not look at him.

“I don’t think he will mind, he’ll think to himself ‘Have a good season at Celtic and maybe I can get a better move on a free transfer’.

“When you’ve got a year left you’re not worried either way. If it’s not this summer, it will be next summer.”

Edouard has scored 86 times and provided 39 assists in 177 games across all competitions for the Hoops.

The 23-year-old has scored three times this season but has been overshadowed by summer signing Kyogo Furuhashi.

In other news, a “massive” development may see another exit-bound Celtic star make a U-turn.
