Ex-PGMOL chief: Cesar Peixoto facing Wolves ban as 'unacceptable' footage emerges
Cesar Peixoto and John Mousinho are each likely to face a touchline ban for the fracas that followed Wolves' draw with Portsmouth on Tuesday.
That is according to former PGMOL chief, Keith Hackett, who has exclusively told Football Insider that the pair should also be fined and meet with the LMA for some advice going forward.
Wolves were held to a 1-1 draw by Pompey at Molineux in midweek as their disappointing return to the second tier continued on home turf.
Peixoto has come under fire for some of the Old Gold's performances over recent weeks, with the club chasing automatic promotion but currently sitting seventh in the Championship.
Jordan James opened the scoring just after the hour mark on Tuesday before Terry Devlin equalised for Portsmouth four minutes from time to anger Peixoto and his backroom staff.
The Wolves manager became irate with Mousinho shortly after the full-time whistle as frustrations boiled over and staff from each club quickly broke up their stand-off.
Cesar Peixoto and John Mousinho both facing ban and fine for 'damaging' post-match scenes
Peixoto's side have now won just three of their last nine outings, and fans are rapidly losing faith with the Portuguese manager as a change in the dugout potentially looms.
Mousinho, meanwhile, retains the backing of the Pompey board and supporters as they sit healthily in 13th and aim for an unlikely play-off challenge this season.
The Portsmouth manager was asked about the post-match scenes after the Wolves clash on Tuesday, and he replied: "I shook his hand and then as he walked off he kindly explained to me that I talk too much. That was it. I very politely told him I disagreed and that's my job as head coach, so I don't know what it was all about.”
Former refereeing chief Hackett has insisted that both bosses deserve to be sanctioned after the unsavoury incident, with respective touchline bans and fines put forward as sufficient punishments.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, he said: "This behaviour is unacceptable and damaging to the image of the game. They should be sanctioned with a touchline ban and a fine. I suggest also that the LMA have a meeting with them to offer some operational advice."
Wolves discussing Steve Cooper as potential Peixoto replacement
The Old Gold manager could be relieved of his duties before he even gets the chance to serve a potential ban from the touchline.
Failure to beat struggling Watford this weekend may see him sacked, with Wolves' chiefs already looking at possible successors.
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that ex-Nottingham Forest boss Cooper has emerged as a potential replacement for Peixoto if they decide to make a change soon.
Cooper won promotion to the top flight as Forest boss in 2022 and was most recently in charge of Danish side Brondby, but was sacked in May after eight months in the job.
