Sheffield United to agree takeover 'much quicker than Sheffield Wednesday' after 'brutal' twist
Sheffield United are likely to see their ownership crisis finalised much more quickly than the one experienced by their city rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
That is according to former Everton chief executive and ex-Premier League board member Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Blades are a more "eminently sellable" prospect than the Owls.
Chris Wilder's side recently saw their owners' COH Sports company wound up in court, amid the ongoing dispute over them owing £35million to former owner Prince Abdullah.
Wyness believes that the best course of action is for the club to be sold on to new hands, amid what he deems to be a "brutal experience."
The South Yorkshire outfit have enjoyed a positive start to the new campaign, and remain unbeaten in the Championship after four games.
However, the uncertainty behind the scenes has dampened the optimism at Bramall Lane, but Wyness is still hopeful that a quick solution could be found.
Sheffield United takeover could come in next six months
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that United are likely to fall into new hands much quicker than Wednesday did last season.
The Owls spent over six months in administration before they were eventually bought by David Storch at the start of May.
Speaking on Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained how a takeover would be the best course of action at Bramall Lane.
"After Sheffield Wednesday's experience, which was brutal, Sheffield United are now going to be in a similarly brutal situation," he said.
"But I think United, though, are a lot more eminently sellable than Wednesday were.
"I would expect a quicker resolution and somebody buying the club out a lot quicker than the Wednesday thing dragged on for. But nevertheless, it's a brutal experience to go through.
"I feel sorry that Sheffield, which is one of the great cities for football, is having to be dragged through this again, as we just had the experience with Wednesday.
"So I'm just hoping that there are a couple of groups waiting to buy United out quickly, because that's what needs to be done."
Sheffield United rejected late bid for star
Football Insider revealed on deadline day that Sheffield United rejected an offer from Burnley for key left-back Harrison Burrows.
The Blades' Championship rivals made a last-minute attempt to snatch the 24-year-old away frm Bramall Lane, but swiftly saw their bid knocked back.
Burrows remains a crucial part of Wilder's plans this season, and they are reluctant to lose him any time soon.
The former Peterborough man has established himself as one of the Championship's best left-backs, and will remain in a United shirt for 2026-27.
