‘Don't pay his wages’ – Ex-refs chief: Michael Skubala must punish Bristol City star after incident vs Millwall
Adam Randell needs operational advice after he was given his marching orders in Bristol City’s 2-0 defeat to Millwall on Saturday.
That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider who insisted that the midfielder was fully deserving of his second yellow card in the Robins’ opening Championship game of the campaign.
The 25-year-old was given his marching orders after just 36 minutes at Ashton Gate on Saturday.
Despite already being on a booking, Randell pulled back Josh Coburn when Millwall were looking to form a counterattack.
As a result, referee Lewis Smith did not hesitate to pull out a second yellow card, with the Bristol City star looking baffled that he had been sent off.
Now, Hackett believes that Randell needs further advice from his manager, Michael Skubala, to prevent this happening again.
Keith Hackett: Bristol City shouldn’t pay Adam Randell’s wages while he is suspended
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Hackett explained why he believed that Randell was rightly sent off against Millwall.
He said: “First of all, the referee's spot on. He's made the correct call.
“That comes under the banner of unsporting behaviour, stopping a promising attack. It's a yellow card offence.
“So if he's on a yellow, why don't players react in a different way? He knows he's on a yellow; therefore he's halfway off the pitch.
“Does he think the referee is going to ignore that and not apply the law?
“I mean, he needs some operational advice from his manager. And if I were the manager, I'd be saying, because you're not available, I'm not paying you any wages.”
Where are Bristol City expected to finish this season?
Unfortunately for Bristol City, Opta does not believe that they will have a great campaign.
After the opening weekend fixtures, the supercomputer has in fact predicted the Robins to be relegated.
As it stands, Bristol City are expected to finish 22nd, with a 25 per cent chance of going down.
Stoke City and Preston North End are expected to join them in League One in the next campaign.
However, it remains to be seen if the Robins are able to bounce back this season after a poor opening two fixtures.
