Nathan Saliba: The World Cup star who Frank Lampard should be all over at Coventry City
Frank Lampard will be doing everything in his power to ensure that Coventry City stay in the Premier League next season.
The Sky Blues earned promotion from the Championship in style in 2025-26, finishing the campaign on 95 points, 11 ahead of second-place Ipswich Town.
But many will admit that the squad could do with some revamping, or least a few big-money reinforcements, like goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.
This is exactly where Anderlecht and Canada national team midfielder Nathan Saliba comes in, especially after yet another impressive display at the 2026 World Cup.
While it was LAFC's Stephen Eustaquio who stole the show, his midfield partner was the one doing all the dirty work against South Africa on Sunday, 28 June.
Jack Rudoni, Josh Eccles and Victor Torp are all talented players, but with Frank Onyeka only on loan last term, Coventry will be crying out for a destroyer in the middle.
Nathan Saliba continues to impress at 2026 World Cup
Saliba is certainly that. In 60 minutes, he picked up a yellow card, made seven passes into the final third, made three tackles and six recoveries, and won 100 per cent of his aerial duels [FotMob].
As well as committing three fouls, the 22-year-old also won two fouls and 60 per cent of his ground duels, and he would be an interesting addition to Lampard's midfield.
The Canadian international loves to press aggressively, has the ability to receive the ball under pressure, and can also act as a box-to-box player if needed.
This could be the perfect character to add to the squad before Coventry take on the Premier League next term, but it'll likely come at a price.
And it wouldn't be a surprise at all were Coventry to face competition from other Premier League sides, having already made a name for himself in Belgium in just one season.
What should Coventry City fans know about Saliba?
Those at the World Cup will admit that Saliba's chance to shine came under very disappointing circumstances, but he's taken it all in his stride.
Ismael Kone's campaign was ended when he broke his leg against Qatar, but after coming on as his replacement, Saliba scored and assisted.
He added another assist in the defeat to Switzerland, but that will be no surprise, as Canada's 2024 Youth Player of the Year.
It would appear that the world is his oyster, and Saliba can go as far as he can push, which is exactly why Coventry need to steal the Anderlecht star's signature this summer.
