Norwich City's talks over a new contract for Errol Mundle-Smith have stalled in recent weeks, sources have told Football Insider.

The 20-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at Carrow Road and is set to leave on a free transfer in June as things stand, despite hopes he would pen a new deal.

Norwich remain keen to get the striker tied down before the end of the season, but have struggled to make progress in talks and are now fearing the worst.

Mundle-Smith is highly regarded at Norwich despite his lack of involvement at first-team level so far this season, where he has yet to make a senior appearance.

The England Under-20 international made 13 Championship appearances last time out and established himself as a key part of the first-team squad in the latter stages of the season.

However, given his lack of minutes under Philippe Clement so far this term, doubts have grown about his long-term future at the club and contract talks have his a roadblock.

Could Errol Mundle-Smith look to leave Norwich City?

Norwich have endured a miserable start to the season so far, with just three wins taken from their first 11 Championship games pushing them down to 21st in the table.

Questions have been asked about Clement's decision-making as a result, and with Mundle-Smith having dropped out of the side, he will feel he deserves a bigger role.

The forward's performances last season had seen him tipped to push on in his development in 2026-27, but his lack of action so far has been raised as a concern.

Doubts have now grown about his long-term future at the club, with contract talks stalling alongside his decrease in playing time, and he could move on next summer.

A number of clubs are expected to be keeping an eye on the Mundle-Smith's situation in case he is allowed to move on, with a free transfer now firmly on the cards.

Which other players could be on the move in the Championship?

Mundle-Smith is not the only player being linked with a move in 2027, with Championship clubs ready for busy windows which will see both incoming and outgoing deals.

The Norwich star is joined by the likes of Jason Knight, Million Manhoes and Krepin Diatta on the list of players in the second tier who are out of contract next summer.

Meanwhile, in terms of potential incomings, former Man United scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Leeds winger Daniel James could be set for a return to the Championship.

The 28-year-old has found playing time increasingly difficult to come by in recent months and has been pushed down the pecking order by new arrivals at Elland Road.

A number of clubs in the second tier are believed to be on alert over his situation, and could look to lure him away from Leeds if his minutes do not improve.
