Dan James 'expected' to join Championship club, Leeds plan to accept offer

Daniel James is being eyed by a number of top Championship clubs as Leeds United continue to weigh up his future.

The 28-year-old has found play time increasingly difficult to come by in recent months and has been pushed down the pecking order by new arrivals at Elland Road.

While Daniel Farke still believes the winger can have a valuable role to play in his squad, his role as an impact sub has led to question marks about his long-term future.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that James could be allowed to leave Leeds in January and he is likely to end up playing in the Championship.

A number of promotion-hunting sides are believed to be keeping an eye on the Wales international's situation, and could make a move to lure him away when the window opens.

This comes amid a feeling that James is not good enough to play regularly in the Premier League, with a move to the second tier seen as a good opportunity.

Could Leeds accept new offer for Dan James?

Brown told Football Insider on 29 September that Leeds are prepared to let James move on in the January transfer window after he has dropped down the pecking order.

He has yet to start a Premier League game this term, and following the arrival of new players in his position, that is unlikely to change after the break.

While there is a feeling he can still be a useful bench option, the winger may be keen to play more regular football, and a step into the Championship could be ideal.

"It's a difficult one for Dan James," Brown told Football Insider.

"I don't think he's a bad player by any means, he's certainly a valuable asset, but Leeds are looking to be ambitious and he's not good enough for where they want to be.

"There are a number of clubs in the Championship who could do with a player like him, and if he is available, I expect that to be his next move.

"For me, he falls into that bracket where he's a top player in the Championship but not quite good enough for the Premier League, and that is difficult.

"But it does mean that if he drops down into the second tier, he should be able to play regular football, which is ultimately what he will want.

"If he's not playing for Leeds between now and January, then I expect a move to the second tier will be on the cards, and there are lots of clubs who would be interested."

How does James feel about leaving Leeds?

Amid ongoing speculation about whether James could be allowed to leave Leeds in the January transfer window, much will depend on how he feels about the situation.

Given his lack of playing time this season, a move away could be on the cards as he eyes a more regular role, even if it means moving back into the Championship.

Football Insider revealed on 23 September that James could push to leave Leeds as a result of that lack of playing time, despite his role as a useful option from Farke's bench.

The Whites are understood to be happy to keep the Wales international, provided that he continues to accept his role as an impact player from the bench.

However, amid a growing feeling that he could be frustrated with his role, there is a chance he could be allowed to leave when the next transfer window opens.
