Leeds plan to 'accept' new Dan James offer - 'He's not good enough'

Leeds United are open to accepting offers for Daniel James as he has been pushed down the pecking order in recent weeks.

The 28-year-old has been a regular feature in Daniel Farke's squads over the last 12 months, but has found play time increasingly difficult to come by so far this season.

The Wales international has yet to start a Premier League game this term, and following the arrival of new players in his position, his long-term future has been called into question.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that James is not good enough to play regularly in the Premier League, leading to concerns at Leeds.

While there is a feeling he can still be a useful bench option, the winger may be keen to play more regular football away from Elland Road at this stage of his career.

Farke, meanwhile, would be prepared to see him move on for the right price in the 2027 transfer windows given his new-found depth in wide areas.

Could Dan James be set to leave Leeds United?

Football Insider revealed on 23 September that James could push to leave Leeds during the January transfer window given his lack of a starting-XI role this season.

Leeds are believed to be happy to keep him as long as he continues to play a role from the bench, but that has led to uncertainty surrounding the winger's stance.

As a result, Leeds are prepared to entertain offers for James when the window opens, and have no ruled out his exit should an acceptable offer arrive.

"Leeds United are making progress which is leaving players like Dan James behind," Brown told Football Insider.

"I don't think he's a bad player by any means, he's certainly a valuable asset, but Leeds are looking to be ambitious and he's not good enough for where they want to be.

"He can still be useful and he's showing that when he comes off the bench, but if he's not starting games, it's clear that the manager doesn't see him as a key player.

"Leeds went out and bought other wingers during the summer, and when they get up to speed it's only going to push James further down the pecking order.

"So if a club comes in with a decent offer in January or next year, I expect Leeds will be prepared to accept it."

Which other wingers are under threat at Leeds?

James is not the only winger facing question-marks about his future at Elland Road despite the club's strong start to the season, with Farke sticking to his current setup.

Leeds completed moves for Harry Wilson and Jean-Matteo Bahoya during the summer window, but neither have been able to pull up any trees at Elland Road so far.

Brown warned Football Insider on 23 September that Leeds are concerned about Bahoya's performances in training as he has struggled to impress his new manager.

The 21-year-old made the switch to Elland Road on deadline day, but has so far played just two minutes under Farke in the final stages of the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

He remained an unused subsitute in the games against Brighton, Newcastle and Chelsea, but there is a feeling he is still adapting to life at his new club.

Sources say Leeds would be "more than happy" to keep the winger if he can prove himself under Farke, but he has so far failed to impress, leading to concerns.
