Leeds 'concerned' about Jean-Matteo Bahoya after training ground claim

Leeds United are concerned about Jean-Matteo Bahoya's slow start since signing him on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 21-year-old made the switch to Elland Road on deadline day, but has so far played just two minutes under Daniel Farke in the final stages of the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

He remained an unused subsitute in the games against Brighton, Newcastle and Chelsea, but there is a feeling he is still adapting to life at his new club.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown warned Football Insider that Bahoya has not done enough in training to convince Farke he deserves a role in the squad.

While there are options ahead of him in the pecking order, the boss turned to out-of-form Daniel James against Palace before deciding to bring on his new attacking signing.

That has raised red flags about Bahoya's role in the squad and whether he is part of Farke's plans, and he is now being told he must prove he deserves to play more minutes.

Football Insider revealed on 15 September that Leeds will not rush into a decision about triggering Bahoya's option to buy at the end of his loan spell next summer.

Sources say Leeds would be "more than happy" to keep the winger if he can prove himself under Farke, but he has so far failed to impress, leading to concerns.

Should he remain on the fringes of Farke's side following the international break, questions will start to be asked about his role in the side and his long-term future.

"It's already a bit of a concern that Bahoya hasn't been playing often for Leeds," Brown told Football Insider.

"The brought him in and he's been in the squad, but he's not been playing, other players are being brought on ahead of him, and he only got a couple of minutes against Palace.

"The thing is, Daniel Farke has seen him in training every day, and he'll be looking at the way he trains, how hard he works, how he performs, and questioning whether he's ready to start.

"But it seems he hasn't been impressed by what he's seen, so he doesn't have the confidence to include him when it comes to a matchday.

"Farke wants Bahoya to make his mind up for him, he needs to show him enough in training that it makes it impossible for him to leave him out, and he's not doing that at the moment.

"Okay, it takes time for players to settle at a new club, a new environment, under a new manager, but it's clear they want to see more from him.

"During this break, they'll be looking for him to step up and show he's ready to feature when the Premeir League is back, because otherwise they might have a problem."

What other deals are Leeds focused on ahead of next summer?

Following the close of the transfer window at the start of this month, Leeds have already turned their attentions to the long-term future, with much to discuss ahead of next summer.

Bahoya's future will surely be a topic of discussion throughout the season, but another issue Leeds are keen to resolve is about Farke's future and contract situation.

Football Insider revealed on 20 September that Leeds are planning to accelerate talks over a contract extension for Farke, whose current deal will expire next summer.

This comes after a strong start to the season, with the club keen to reward the boss for the work he has done in leading them to the Premier League and securing their status.

With all parties keen to reach an agreement and extend his stay at Elland Road, work is now being done behind the scenes to make an offer that works for all parties.
