Sources: Salford City agree deal to sign Wrexham's Dan Scarr
Salford City have agreed a deal to sign Wrexham defender Dan Scarr in a permanent move, sources have told Football Insider.
The 31-year-old has entered the final year of his contract and was an unused substitute for the first four games of the season.
He now looks set to take the step down to League Two from the Championship, despite starting the final five games of Wrexham's last league season.
Scarr had admirers in the Championship, League One and elsewhere in League Two, but Salford appear to have won the race.
The Ammies have endured a difficult start to the season, having lost their first three league games after being knocked out of the Carabao Cup on penalties by Shrewsbury Town.
Peter Cklamovski will be pleased to be able to call on Scarr for his squad, with the experienced defender expected to slot straight in.
What will Dan Scarr add for Salford?
Scarr's career began with Causeway and Redditch in non-league, before he eventually made it to Birmingham City in 2017.
A loan with Wycombe Wanderers saw him earn a move to Walsall in 2018, before later joining Plymouth Argyle in 2021.
The 31-year-old would make 109 appearances for the Pilgrims and was a part of the team that won League One with 101 points in 2023.
In 2024, Scarr signed for Wrexham and has served largely as a utility defender for Phil Parkinson's side since.
While a move to Salford and League Two will be a step down in level, it will see him handed regular minutes for the first time in several years.
The defender is expected to be considered a considerable coup for Cklamovski's side and will reinforce what has been a leaky defence.
Wrexham to continue summer overhaul
Unsurprisingly, it has been an incredibly busy summer transfer window for Wrexham after their disappointing end to the season.
Anthony Patterson, Jacques Ekomie and Danny Imray are among those to have arrived, while a number of players have left.
Scarr looks to be the latest of them, as Wrexham attempt to secure a spot in the play-offs, or more, at the second time of asking.
The centre-back has been a good servant for Parkinson, but it appears that the squad has now moved past him.
