Sources: Joe Worrall set for Wrexham medical after deal agreed

Joe Worrall is set to undergo a medical at Wrexham on Monday ahead of a permanent transfer from Burnley, sources have told Football Insider.

The Red Dragons have agreed a deal to sign the 29-year-old, who is travelling to the Racecourse Ground to finalise his move to North Wales.

Phil Parkinson's side have been working to bolster their backline in recent weeks, and feel that Worrall is the perfect fit to add quality to their centre-back group.

He is yet to feature for Burnley in Championship action so far this season, and the Clarets had been exploring potential exit options for him.

The former Nottingham Forest man is vastly experienced in the second tier, having made over 170 appearances in the Championship during his time at the City Ground.

He is now set to join up with Wrexham ahead of the deadline, as they look to mount another push for promotion to the Premier League.

Wrexham boost centre-back depth

Wrexham's ambitions are bigger than ever this season, but their new campaign has begun in far from ideal fashion.

Parkinson's men are still waiting to notch their first win of 2026-27, having drawn with both Cardiff and Watford, before being beaten at home by Birmingham last weekend.

With that in mind, they remain in the market for several reinforcements ahead of Tuesday night's 11pm deadline, and they are now on the verge of securing Worrall's signature.

Parkinson's side routinely operate with a back three, meaning they have a significant need for a big group of high-quality centre-backs.

Worrall is set to come in and add quality to their existing core, plus the advantage of knowing exactly what it takes to secure promotion out of the Championship, having previously been part of two different teams that reached the top flight.

Wrexham close in on Toni Fruk transfer

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Wrexham are also exploring a last-minute move to sign attacking midfielder Toni Fruk from Hajduk Split.

The 25-year-old is regarded as one of the Croatian top flight's most exciting talents, having netted 19 goals in all competitions last term.

Wrexham are in the market for a new attacking midfielder, and view Fruk as a player who could easily make the transition into English football.

He has recently become a full Croatian international, and could yet be playing his football in the Championship for the rest of the campaign.
