Sources: Wrexham close in on last-minute Toni Fruk transfer

Wrexham are exploring a late move to sign HNK Rijeka attacking midfielder Toni Fruk ahead of the transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.

The Red Dragons are in the market for a new attacking midfielder before the 1 September cut-off, and currently have the 25-year-old on their shortlist of options.

The Croatia international has emerged on the radar of the ambitious Championship outfit, who think his skillset could translate well into English football.

Fruk is a highly-rated talent in his homeland and has broken into the Croatian national team in the last few years.

He ended last season with 19 goals to his name in all competitions, having represented Rijeka in the UEFA Conference League, as well as both Champions League and Europa League qualifying.

Fruk has already begun the new campaign with a goal and an assist from his first three league games, and that form has caught Wrexham's attention.

Wrexham have ambitions of securing promotion to the Premier League this term, having narrowly missed out on a play-off place last time out.

However, with the Championship's newly expanded post-season coming into play in 2026-27, the door will be open for more clubs to make a push for the top flight.

With that in mind, Phil Parkinson and Co. are set to be working hard right up until the deadline to strengthen their squad, as they are still chasing additions in a number of positions.

Fruk has emerged as an appealing option for them to play in behind a striker, a position that he has excelled in for Rijeka.

He has surpassed 20 goal involvements in all competitions in each of the last two seasons, and is widely regarded as one of the Croatian top flight's best talents.

Fruk could be playing his football at the Racecourse Ground in the coming months, but that will depend on how quickly Wrexham can move to get the deal done.

Wrexham work on club-record Pavel Sulc deal

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Wrexham are also working on a club-record deal to sign Lyon star Pavel Sulc.

The Czech international is anotheer clear attacking midfield target for Parkinson and Co., who would need to break their transfer record again after their £8million move for Anthony Patterson earlier in the summer.

Sources indicated that Wrexham were preparing to make a significant offer for the 25-year-old ahead of the window drawing to a close.

Sulc dazzled during his debut campaign at Lyon last term, notching 14 goals and seven assists in all competitions.
