Wrexham are working on a club-record move to sign Lyon star Pavel Sulc in the closing stages of the window, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old has emerged as the Red Dragons' top target, and they are now prepared to make a significant offer to lure him away from Lyon before the window closes.

Wrexham have already smashed their transfer record this summer with the £8million signing of Anthony Patterson from Sunderland, but are now ready to go above that.

Sulc, an attacking midfielder who has amassed 24 appearances for the Czechia national team, has impressed watching scouts with his displays for Lyon over the last 12 months.

Phil Parkinson is aiming to lead his side to promotion this season, despite a frustrating start to the campaign, and they are now planning for a busy end to the window.

Sulc is under contract at Lyon until 2029, placing the Ligue 1 outfit in a strong position to dictate his future, but Wrexham feel a record offer could be enough to do a deal.

Will Wrexham make an offer to sign Pavel Sulc?

Football Insider reported back in February that Lyon could demand as much as £35million for Sulc as he remains a key part of their plans for the long-term future.

That fee was named amid interest from a number of Premier League clubs, who have also taken notice of the midfielder's performances over the last 12 months.

The Czechia international scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists in 42 appearances last season, and has already set up one goal in his only appearance of this season so far.

Wrexham are now prepared to go all-out to bring Sulc to the Stok Cae Ras in the closing stages of the transfer window, with a record-breaking bid now in the offing.

Parkinson is determined to add to his squad and upgrade on his current options before the window closes, and has identified the Lyon star as an option to do so.

Josh Windass' absence in the opening stages of the Championship season has caused issues, and having an alternative player, and a potential uprgade in his position, could be key.

Which other deals could take place at Wrexham?

As they enter the final stages of the summer transfer window, Wrexham are preparing for a busy couple of weeks, with both incoming and outgoing deals on the cards.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 21 August that Reading are lining up a deal to sign Dan Scarr, and believe they could reach an agreement in the near future.

The Royals are keen to strengthen their backline and have identified the 31-year-old as a clear target, as he is seen as an upgrade on their current options.

The former Plymouth man started just 15 games in the Championship last term, and was an unused substitute for the first three games of the season.

Wrexham, meanwhile, are open to trimming their squad in the closing stages of the window as they aim to make room for incoming signings.
