Sources: Blackburn Rovers and QPR make De Keersmaecker approaches

Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers are both chasing wantaway Oxford United midfielder Brian De Keersmaecker, sources have told Football Insider.

Oxford are braced for offers for the 26-year-old this summer, who has made it clear that he wants to play at the highest level possible following their relegation.

Championship sides Blackburn and QPR have made approaches for the Belgian, while several clubs across Europe have also taken an interest.

Blackburn have been long-term admirers of the former Heracles man, and made an attempt to sign him last summer before he joined Oxford.

De Keersmaecker is also being chased by clubs in the Bundesliga and Serie A, as the U's are facing a battle to keep hold of their star man.

He was one of Oxford’s most influential midfielders last season and was badly missed in the second half of the campaign through injury.

Oxford growing concerned over Brian De Keersmaecker's future

De Keersmaecker arrived in England as a relative unknown last summer, but quickly became a key player for Oxford in the Championship.

He notched 25 league starts for the struggling U's in the first half of the season, contributing one goal and five assists in that time.

A serious injury ended his campaign on 24 January, and he was then forced to watch from the sidelines as his team slipped to relegation.

Nevertheless, De Keersmaecker impressed to the point where he has a wide range of options available to him for his next move this summer.

Blackburn and QPR are both prepared to offer him the chance to continue operating at Championship level, while there is also top-flight interest from abroad.

Oxford are aware that it will be difficult to keep their star man amid the growing interest, and are expecting to face offers for him in the coming weeks.

Blackburn keen to sign Joe Taylor

Football Insider revealed at the end of June that Blackburn are interested in signing Huddersfield striker Joe Taylor this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday are also strong admirers of the 23-year-old, who caught the eye during a loan spell with Wigan Athletic in the second half of last season.

Taylor struck 11 goals in just 21 league games for the Latics, taking his final tally to 15 across the entire League One season.

Blackburn are now ready to offer him the chance to jump up to the second tier, but will have to find a way of beating Wednesday to a deal.
