Sources: Cardiff City in advanced talks to sign Jack Moylan
Cardiff City are in advanced talks to sign Lincoln City star Jack Moylan, sources have told Football Insider.
The Bluebirds are closing in on a deal for the 24-year-old attacking midfielder after his impressive campaign in League One.
Last season, the Republic of Ireland international netted 11 times and picked up six assists in the Championship as the Imps won the third-tier title.
His form saw him nominated for the League One Player of the Season, and he was included in the Team of the Season after winning promotion.
Now, he could become Cardiff’s second major signing of the summer as they prepare for life back in the Championship.
So far, the Bluebirds have only brought in Nathan Trott from Copenhagen.
How good is Jack Moylan?
Moylan was no doubt one of the best players in League One last season.
The attacking midfielder was a key reason why Lincoln were able to pip Cardiff to the title and earn a shock promotion to the Championship.
Even after the domestic season had ended, Moylan continued his form and netted a hat-trick on his Republic of Ireland debut in a 5-0 victory against Grenada.
According to Fotmob on 1 August, Moylan was excellent in League One last season.
Attacking-wise, he was dominant and averaged 0.48 goals, a 0.34 xG, 3.61 shots, 1.32 shots on target, 0.26 assists, a 0.20 xA and 1.28 chances created per 90 minutes in League One.
When compared to Cardiff’s main attacking midfielder last season, Rubin Colwill, the Lincoln star’s stats are far better.
Colwill averaged 0.30 goals, a 0.31 xG, 3.02 shots, 1.08 shots on target, 0.22 assists, a 0.27 xA and 2.50 chances created per 90 minutes in League One.
Who else are Cardiff City looking to sign this summer?
Cardiff City have been heavily linked with Tromso star Jens Hjerto-Dahl throughout the summer transfer window.
The Bluebirds received a boost in their pursuit of the 20-year-old midfielder this week when it was revealed that Rangers had pulled out of the race.
Tromso are expected to demand around £8.5million for their star man this summer.
However, it remains to be seen if Cardiff City will be able to secure the signature of Hjerto-Dahl over the coming weeks as they look to have a successful return to the Championship.
