Elliot Anderson: Man United believe Man City will win race to sign ‘£100m’ star
Elliot Anderson is at the centre of an ongoing race between Manchester United and Manchester City as they aim to agree terms with Nottingham Forest.
The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League this season thanks to his performances both for Forest and England.
With both Manchester clubs looking to bolster in the middle, both have set their sights firmly on Anderson and are preparing to lure him to the North West this summer.
However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that there is a growing feeling that Man City are leading the race and will get a deal done.
That could force Man United to change their transfer plans and look elsewhere for a new midfielder, with a number of options believed to be on their list.

Brown told Football Insider last month that Man City are leading the race for Anderson as they will be willing to pay a higher price than their rivals.
Forest are reluctant to lose their star player, although they are aware keeping him will be unlikely, and have placed a significant fee on him.

While United view Anderson as the perfect option to strengthen in midfield, they may now be forced to look elsewhere, with City boosted in their pursuit.
“Elliot Anderson is the one Man United really want,” Brown told Football Insider.
“He has all the attributes they want to add to their midfield when Casemiro leaves, he would be perfect for the position and they want to get it done.
“But from what I’ve heard, there is a feeling that he will end up going to Man City instead.
“Whatever the reason for that is, whether it’s money or whatever is on offer there, that will be a big blow to Man United because then you’re looking at second or third choices.
“They have a list of players they have been looking at, but the further you end up going down that list, the bigger a concern it will be.
“Missing out on Anderson is the start of that, because then what if they can’t get the next player, or the one after that? It’s a difficult position to be in.”
How much will Nottingham Forest demand for Anderson?
While United and City continue to race for his signature, Nottingham Forest are planning to make the most money possible from Anderson’s sale.
He has played a key role in guiding them away from the relegation zone as well as their progress in Europe, both of which should allow them to demand a higher fee.

Meanwhile, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider on 20 April that Evangelos Marinakis will take control of Anderson’s future in any negotiations.
The controversial owner will aim to ensure his side get the best deal for the midfielder, amid claims a £90million offer could arrive before the World Cup.
However, if his sale is delayed until after the tournament, it could see his price tag boosted again with a deal worth over £100million now firmly on the cards.
