Elliot Anderson is expected to be the subject of massive interest this summer as Nottingham Forest fight to keep hold of him.

The midfielder has enjoyed a brilliant season despite the threat of relegation at the City Ground, and will go to the World Cup with England this summer.

Nottingham Forest signed Anderson from Newcastle United in a deal worth around £35million in 2024, and will struggle to maintain their price tag if they are relegated.

But a recent upturn in form under Vitor Pereira has seen the Tricky Trees build a five-point gap to Tottenham and the drop zone.

Nottingham Forest transfer chiefs will hope that survival will keep Anderson at the club for another year, with his contract due to run until 2029.

Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider last week that Anderson’s move to Nottingham Forest has proved a terrible deal for Newcastle.

At the time, it appeared to be a wise move. The midfielder was coming off the back of an injury-hit campaign, and the Magpies needed to sell for profit and sustainability reasons.

Nottingham Forest offered good money for a player who had shown flashes of brilliance, but looked no closer to taking the next step in his career.

But Anderson has done exactly that at the City Ground, and is now among the hottest topics in the Premier League.

In a further blow to Newcastle, it also appears that they did not agree any type of sell-on clause in the deal that saw the England international leave.

That will burn, especially as it emerges just how much Nottingham Forest will want if they are to sell Anderson this summer.

The Athletic reports that owner Evangelos Marinakis is believed to want as much as £125million for the 23-year-old this summer, with Manchester City being the player’s favoured destination.

Should Anderson go for £125m this summer, he will have matched the Premier League transfer record set by Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool last year.

Immediately, he would smash the transfer record for a British player, beating Jack Grealish’s £100m move to Man City in 2021.

And in the list of the most expensive transfers of all time, Anderson would sit joint fourth with his fellow former Newcastle man, Isak.

Just Neymar’s £200m move to PSG, Kylian Mbappe’s £165m move from Monaco, and Philippe Coutinho’s £142m move to Barcelona would sit between Anderson and the top.
