There were a number of failures during Arsene Wenger’s final years as Arsenal manager and the path that defender Hector Bellerin has taken fits into that category.
The 23-year-old burst into the Gunners first team on a permanent basis back in 2014 and was one of the most exciting young right-backs on the planet.
There were many talks that the Spaniard could go on to become the best full-back in the world and Barcelona were always heavily linked.
However, the last couple of seasons have seen a huge decline of the speed demon and he looks a shadow of the player he was.
The lightning full-back has managed to take a backwards step recently and Wenger has failed in helping him reach his full potential, but fortunately time is still on his side.
New Gunners boss Unai Emery should give Bellerin a lifeline to salvage his career at the Emirates Stadium and see if he can cut the grade during the 2018/19 season.
Bellerin needs to tighten up defensively and being a part of an organised backline will help, while there are also elements of his attacking game that must improve.
He needs to start tormenting opposition with his pace and he certainly has to improve on his delivery, with some of his final balls really lacking quality.
In other Arsenal news, Tottenham fans on Twitter ripped into a Gunners ace for his post on social media.
