Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has emerged as a target for Premier League rivals Arsenal, according to a report.

The Sun claim that the Gunners are keen on signing the 27-year-old midfielder and Arsene Wenger’s scouts have been impressed when watching his performances.

It is understood that Champions League regulars Arsenal want to turn him into their very own N’Golo Kante, who is recognised as the standout player in the Premier League following his performances for Leicester and now Chelsea.

However, the report details that Everton are looking at offering Gueye an improved offer after his display at Goodison Park as they look to secure his future.

Gueye has turned out to be a sensational signing for the Toffees following his £7.1million arrival from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

The central midfielder has been a regular starter in the side and made 25 appearances across all competitions.

He did miss a spell mid-way through the season as he competed with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations, but his return has been a boost to the side.

Football Insider verdict:

Gueye has had a phenomenal impact at Everton since his arrival and it’s easy to see how he is compared to Kante. The combative midfielder has been one of the standout players for the Merseyside club and is so effective at breaking up play. The Toffees are looking to break into the top six over the next few seasons and it’s imperative they don’t sell their key players. Ronald Koeman is assembling a strong squad at Everton, but would be massively dented if Gueye or forward Romelu Lukaku in the summer. Gueye may be tempted by a move to Arsenal and could see it as another step up in his career. However, the Toffees need to convince the midfielder that they are capable of pushing for a Champions League spot.
