23-year-old throws Everton future into turmoil, rules out signing new deal – reliable journalist

By Danny Wright

Romelu Lukaku has said that he will not sign the new contract on offer at Everton, according to a reliable journalist.

Kristof Terruer reported on his personal Twitter account that the 23-year-old told Play Sport that he is not interested in signing the new contract, nor is he reflecting on it.

When asked if he was going to sign a new contract, Lukaku was reported to have simply replied with a ‘no’ to every question that was asked about his future.

The Belgium international was smiling for the whole time and was stood next to the Everton press officer when he was asked the questions.

This news comes after the Daily Star claimed that Lukaku was ready to sign a new £140,000-a-week deal to keep him at the club until 2022.

It was been widely reported that Everton’s goal machine has been linked with a move back to his former club Chelsea in the summer.

Lukaku scored his 20th goal of the season for the Toffees against another one of his former clubs on Saturday, West Bromwich Albion, in a 3-0 victory.

He has now struck 81 times for the Merseyside club in 156 appearances across all competitions.

Football Insider Verdict

Judging by the smile on Lukaku’s face when he answered these questions from Play Sport, he may have been joking because this would have been a massive stab in the back for Everton supporters if their star striker is prepared to be so flippant about his future at the club. He’s a young player who loves the game and is probably just fed up with the questions surrounding his future. However if he was being serious then it spells bad news for the Toffees as without Lukaku’s goals this season they would be nowhere near where they currently are in the league this season. However it pans out, there’s no doubt that Lukaku will be one of the major transfer stories this summer.
