Kieran Maguire: Everton 'absolutely delighted' as '£10m-a-year' windfall imminent

Everton are in line to pocket around £10million per year when the Premier League completes the sale of its United States broadcast rights.

That is the view of finance boffin Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the ongoing bidding war for the TV deal.

The Times reported on 11 November that bidding has entered a second round as NBC, CBS and ESPN fight it out.

It was estimated that the six-year rights package could fetch around £1.1billion, a 50 per cent increase on the value of the last deal.

But it is now believed that the new deal could even outstrip those original expectations.

Everton lost an astonishing £139.9million over the course of the last financial year and FFP red tape has hampered them in the transfer market.

And Maguire claims that the Toffees will be “absolutely delighted” with the value of the prospective new deal.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “I think for Premier League clubs, we’re probably talking about £10m per year.

“That’s a significant income stream. That realistically pays the wages of four or five players.

“It’s got to be welcome given the losses that all the Premier League teams have had to absorb during Covid.

“As we know, Everton have taken heavy losses. So I’m sure they’ll be absolutely delighted to hear this news.

“Broadcast income is a fundamental pillar of each club’s model, and overseas monies are becoming increasingly significant too.”
