Paul Robinson has backed Everton to launch a bid to sign Kieran Trippier if Manchester United pull out of the race.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England keeper conceded that the Toffees would be the 30-year-old's second choice destination.

As reported by The Athletic on Monday (9th August), United have cooled interest in the full-back after Diogo Dalot's impressive pre-season displays.

In June, the Daily Mail reported Everton were also interested in Trippier and would battle Manchester United for his capture.

The defender has two years remaining on his contract at Atletico Madrid but the Telegraph claim he is desperate to return to England.

Robinson suggested Everton would be a good move for Trippier if United back out of the hunt.

He told Football Insider's Dylan Childs: "He has obviously made his feelings clear that he wants to come back to the Premier League.

“Everton is a top club, and he has a good opportunity to play there.

"If there's interest from Manchester United, it's a different story. If you have to choose between Manchester United and Everton, you'd pick the former.

“Everton are a great option for Trippier if he wants to come home.

“And Trippier would be great for Everton if they want to push on to the next level. I expected more from them in this window and I can see them going for him.”

Trippier left Tottenham to join Atletico back in July 2019.

He played 28 times last term to help the Spanish side win the La Liga title.
