Sources: Everton slash Kenny asking price as new right-back lined up

Everton will listen to offers for Jonjoe Kenny if they sign a new right-back this month, Football Insider has learned.

The Merseysiders are in the market for a right-sided defender to provide cover and competition for skipper Seamus Coleman.

An Everton source has told Football Insider that the club have slashed their asking price for Kenny as they prepare for his potential exit.

They wanted £7million for the 24-year-old in January and would let him go for a £5m offer this month.

He has a contract that runs until the summer of 2022.

The defender spent the second half of the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Celtic.

He featured 16 times and registered four assists during his time with the Scottish giants.

Kenny made eight appearances for Everton earlier in the campaign but only one of those was as a starter in the Premier League.

He made his Toffees debut in 2014 but has been unable to oust Coleman, who signed a contract extension in July, from the first XI.

Mason Holgate has also moved ahead of him in the pecking order at Goodison.

Holgate is primarily a centre-half but is often deployed at full-back by Everton.

Kenny’s breakthrough campaign came in 2017-18 when he made 25 appearances in all competitions.

That came after the Liverpool-born defender spent time out on loan with Wigan Athletic and Oxford United in earlier seasons.

He also spent 2019-20 on loan with Schalke in the Bundesliga.

Kenny has represented England at six different age-group levels and has 16 under-21 caps to his name.
