Everton have been handed a boost in their quest to sign Bayern Munich's Adam Aznou and could soon submit a bid for the full-back.

The left-back spot has often been an issue on Merseyside, with Vitalii Mykolenko sometimes struggling to stay off the treatment table long enough to put a string of performances together.

Ashley Young has moved on after providing veteran full-back cover in recent seasons and now David Moyes is moving to address the problem, with one of Vincent Kompany's players now on the list.

The Moroccan international spent the second half of last season on loan with Real Valladolid, having made just four first-team appearances for the Bundesliga champions since arriving from Barcelona.

Everton to solve full-back problems

According to FootMercato (26 July), the Toffees have entered the race to sign Aznou, possibly readying a bid of €11million (£9.6million) to submit in the next few hours. Bayern's response is not yet known.

It is understood that the 19-year-old was closing in on a move to Getafe, with a flight to Spain scheduled, before a disagreement over the mandatory buy option scuppered the deal, opening the door for Everton.

Aznou has been unhappy with his game time at Allianz Arena, with eyes on the Moroccan squad for AFCON and the 2026 World Cup, and is now determined to leave the Bundesliga giants.

David Moyes continues summer rebuild on Merseyside

Football Insider verdict

There is plenty of excitement ahead for the Toffees, not least because of the emotional move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but also because of the multiple signings so far this summer.

Carlos Alcaraz and Thierno Barry have both arrived on permanent deals, as has goalkeeper Mark Travers, and solidifying the defensive line would be the next best thing ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Toffees' game has been built on an unbreachable back four, having only conceded more goals than Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea in the Premier League last season.

Of course, the biggest concern comes in the final third, with only the three relegated sides scoring fewer goals last season, and that needs to be addressed before the new campaign kicks off.

The new arrivals will certainly make up for Dominic Calvert-Lewin's departure in a free transfer, but it leaves Beto as the only other centre-forward, with Iliman Ndiaye coming off the flank to add more danger.

Everton had registered an interest in Liverpool's Ben Doak, and with Jack Harrison returning to Leeds United, a new addition in the final third would make a lot of sense after Aznou.
